Approximately 10 to 20% of confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage, or spontaneous pregnancy loss. Usually, a miscarriage occurs because the fetus is not developing as it should. Explaining common causes of recurrent miscarriage

Often, women who deal with recurrent miscarriage have underlying issues that contribute to the repeated losses. Generally, the following factors may contribute to recurrent miscarriage:

Chromosomal defects – a leading cause of early miscarriage, chromosomal imbalances occur when the baby receives the incorrect number of chromosomes (aneuploid) or when chromosomes break off and form translocations.

Maternal age/paternal age – as women get older, the quantity and quality of eggs decline, which may hinder the chances for a successful pregnancy. Irregularities related to sperm development and production may also increase with age.

Physical abnormalities – polyps, adhesions and congenital defects in the uterus can make sustaining a pregnancy difficult.

Certain medical conditions – women with clotting disorders, diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome may have an increased risk of repeated pregnancy loss.
