For many women, a VBAC, or vaginal birth after cesarean, is an option that our ObGyns are happy to discuss.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-af2ac6a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"af2ac6a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who is a good candidate for a VBAC?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ba6d676 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ba6d676\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Each pregnancy and each woman is unique, so the decision to attempt a VBAC must take many factors into consideration. A woman is a good candidate if she meets the following criteria.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-09ebce3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"09ebce3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>She has had one, low, transverse uterine incision. If a woman has had two or more C sections, the odds for success diminish, but she can usually still attempt a VBAC.<\/li><li>She is carrying a normal-size baby who is progressing well during the pregnancy.<\/li><li>She is not currently experiencing the problem that caused her last C section.<\/li><li>She has already had a successful VBAC with a previous pregnancy.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2f9872 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b2f9872\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn some cases, a woman may not be a good candidate for a VBAC. For example, if she is carrying a very large baby and\/or is past her due date, or if she had a vertical uterine incision during her previous C section, she will likely have another C section.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d86930d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d86930d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">VBAC benefits and risks\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75ba934 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"75ba934\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis option allows a woman to avoid major surgery and lowers the risk for infection for the mother. It also allows faster recovery after giving birth.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c2cf38d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c2cf38d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOn the other hand, a VBAC carries certain risks.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c68f58e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c68f58e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>If the VBAC is not successful and a repeat C section is necessary, it causes more complications than that of an elective C section.<\/li><li>The risk for uterine rupture is very, very low, but if it does occur, it is a serious medical situation.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2ebe76 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b2ebe76\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Our Grapevine and Fort Worth ObGyns offer most women an option to try labor and delivery\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1eaeb0d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1eaeb0d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that most women be offered a trial of labor after cesarean, or TOLAC, if they want to attempt a VBAC. A trial of labor simply means that a woman begins her labor with the intention of having a vaginal birth. For many women, a VBAC, or vaginal birth after cesarean, is an option that our ObGyns are happy to discuss. Who is a good candidate for a VBAC? Each pregnancy and each woman is unique, so the decision to attempt a VBAC must take many factors into consideration. A woman is a good candidate if she meets the following criteria. She has had one, low, transverse uterine incision. If a woman has had two or more C sections, the odds for success diminish, but she can usually still attempt a VBAC. She is carrying a normal-size baby who is progressing well during the pregnancy. She is not currently experiencing the problem that caused her last C section. She has already had a successful VBAC with a previous pregnancy. In some cases, a woman may not be a good candidate for a VBAC. For example, if she is carrying a very large baby and\/or is past her due date, or if she had a vertical uterine incision during her previous C section, she will likely have another C section. VBAC benefits and risks This option allows a woman to avoid major surgery and lowers the risk for infection for the mother. It also allows faster recovery after giving birth. On the other hand, a VBAC carries certain risks. If the VBAC is not successful and a repeat C section is necessary, it causes more complications than that of an elective C section. The risk for uterine rupture is very, very low, but if it does occur, it is a serious medical situation.
