Then, on May 12,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/health\/coronavirus\/texas-ag-says-dallas-county-cant-require-people-to-wear-masks\/287-7d789f10-1ed7-4006-adb2-3d1ace0cb421\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WFFA Channel 8<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> reported that the Texas Attorney General argued that the city of Dallas couldn\u2019t make masks a requirement as it was in conflict with Governor Greg Abbott\u2019s executive orders in responding to the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The long and short of it: Some businesses are requiring masks, and some aren\u2019t. Therefore, as we go out into public, we see a mix of mask wearers and non wearers. We hear many heated opinions in our social media feeds. The information has become confusing and at times overwhelming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So, what should we do?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Should We Wear Masks During COVID-19?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, covering the face does help slow the spread of the virus and may help stop transmission from those who have it and don\u2019t know it. They recommend the use of a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cloth face covering<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or mask in public settings when social distancing isn\u2019t easy to maintain. This would include places like grocery stores or pharmacies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re taking a walk in the park, there\u2019s no need for a mask. Cloth face coverings should:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fit securely to the side of the face<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be tied snugly or looped around ears<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have multiple layers of fabric<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Not restrict breathing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be able to be laundered and dried without losing shape\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s important to note that a mask is not a substitute for any of the other precautions we should all still be taking (social distancing, limiting crowds, frequently washing hands, etc,).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As the debates continue from a policy perspective, we must continue to do our part from a public health perspective. We all want life to return to normal as soon as possible. We want our economy to be as functional and as strong as possible. We want our kids and elderly to be safe and protected.
